Brief about some of the career theories:
-
A fundamental aspect of Super’s theory(1993) is that vocational choice is an implementation of the self-concept of a person. The self-concept includes the objective view of the self along with subjective views of the self. Individuals construct their career in a continuing self-evaluation within their social context. Individuals begin to consider work roles that fit their self-concepts. Their self-concepts are shaped by feedback from the external world (e. g., parents, teachers, employers), and in turn, the evolving self-concept begins to be implemented in different work roles. … In addition to information about self (i.e. interests, values, abilities) … he has suggested … to integrate persons subjective views of who they are and the role that they want work to play in their lives… (Swanson J. L and Fouad N.A (2010).

“Roe’s(1957) studies… explore (d) relationships among the familial, intellectual, personality and social factors on the one hand and success in occupations on the other. In her view, the totality of experiences like childhood exposures, school influences, parental harmony, illness if any resulted in the development of personality orientations i.e. ‘Person –Oriented’ and “Not-toward- Person –Oriented” … Roe found that there are three kinds of parent-child relationships which have career choice implications such

Holland(1997) is of the opinion that career choices ae expressions of one’s personality. It is the degree of relatedness between RIASEC types of personality and between RIASEC environment which describes the degree of success, stability and satisfaction of the career.

Theory of work(2005) adjustment points out that though there are individual differences in abilities, needs, values, etc. The success on the job of a person depends on the level of satisfaction acquired in settings created by individual’s opportunities to develop work skills.
Understanding of Mindfulness
“Mindfulness is the energy of being aware of what is happening in the present moment” (Thick Nhat Hanh, 2007). The “official” definition of mindfulness used by scientists is:
-
Mindfulness is letting go of taking things for granted…
-
Mindfulness means to return to the present moment…
-
Mindfulness is the self-regulation of attention with an attitude of curiosity, openness, and acceptance” … (Ryan M. Niemiec, Psy. D., 2017)
Mindfulness is a way for creating awareness and developing insight in an individual. It is an educational tool for experiential learning. Experiential learning creates more imprints on the minds with ever lasting impact. Being mindful would help to handle everyday situations at home and working place without feeling any stress.
Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present. This state encompasses observing one’s thoughts and feelings without judging them as good or bad. It is an awareness of one's internal states and surroundings, cultivated through meditation in which a person focuses attention on his or her breathing and thoughts, feelings, and sensations are experienced freely as they arise .
The knowledge and application of career theories and mindfulness would help to experience satisfaction in day to day living.
The issues related to mental health, career advancement or legal will not be dissuced. The focus of the intervention is limited to application of mindfulness practices to be able to enjoy day to day living with smile.
